Sleep Well Knowing Where Your Wool Comes From
What if the secret to a more comfortable night’s sleep was already in nature?
Throughout each October, Wool Month celebrates the remarkable qualities of wool. At H. Dawson, we wanted to focus on one we are particularly passionate about - using wool for a great night's sleep.
Wool is much more than a warm and cosy fibre. Its natural properties make it particularly well suited to bedding, helping to create a comfortable sleep environment through temperature regulation, moisture management, breathability and natural comfort.
Why wool for sleep?
A comfortable sleeping environment can make a real difference to the quality of our rest. One of the challenges many sleepers face is maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout the night. In fact, research shows that over a third of people attribute poor sleep to being too hot.
This is where wool's natural properties come into their own.
Unlike synthetic fibres, wool naturally helps to manage moisture and regulate temperature, helping to keep the body comfortable throughout the night. Its breathability allows moisture to move away from the body, helping sleepers stay dry and comfortable.
Naturally made for comfort
Wool's benefits don't stop at temperature regulation.
Its natural resilience provides comfort and support, while its ability to manage moisture helps create a fresher and more comfortable environment for sleep. Wool is also naturally breathable and hypoallergenic.
Research into wool sleepwear and bedding has found that sleeping with wool can contribute to deeper, longer sleep, with sleepers waking less frequently. Research into wool underlays has also found associations with more peaceful sleep, with participants reporting feeling better and experiencing improved sleep quality.
A Fully Traceable Path to Better Sleep
Before wool becomes the bedding that you sleep beneath, it begins its journey on British farms.
At H. Dawson, our wool is sourced through Woolkeepers®, a community of over 1,000 progressive British sheep farmers. Woolkeepers® provide a traceable & transparent route to market while promoting the many benefits of wool production - such as improved animal health, biodiversity, soil enrichment, and long-term farm profitability.
Our engagement with The Woolkeepers® community is not just about sustainability; it’s about creating a cycle of value that supports farmers, the environment, and the end consumer.
Together, we are building a future where wool contributes to regenerating grasslands, enhancing wool quality, and valuing the wool grower.
